THE REST OF THE BIBLE

What "books" belong in the Bible? The New Testament "canon" was finally settled in the 4th century. The final number of books in the New Testament has been 27 for the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Protestant Church. However, the Old Testament "canon" differs among the Eastern Orthodox, the Roman Catholic, and The Protestants. For the early church the Old Testament was the "Greek Old Testament", also known as the "Septuagint". The Septuagint or Greek Old Testament has remained the Old Testament of the Orthodox Church from the beginning. It is important to note that the Greek Old Testament includes a number of books not found in modern translations of the Bible mostly published by Protestants. During the Reformation period the Reformers called these particular books the "apocrypha" and cut them out of the Old Testament of Protestant Bibles. The Roman Catholic Church responded by keeping most of these books in their Bibles and they are known as Deuterocanonical. The Orthodox Church has called these books the "Readables" since the 4th century when St Athanasius named them as such while he was working on establishing the Christian canon of Scripture.

THE READABLES:
Prayer of Manasseh
Psalm 151
1 Ezra
Tobit
Judith
1, 2, 3 Maccabees
Wisdom of Solomon
Wisdom of Sirach
Baruch
The Epistle of Jeremiah
Susanna
Bel and the Dragon
The Song of the Three Holy Youths

LETTERS ON ORTHODOXY

This blog is a record of the letters an inquirer into Orthodoxy wrote to his family and friends while he struggled for the truth, and what it meant to him as a Protestant. It is a very personal journey that you are allowed to enter into. Many questions Protestants have about the Orthodox Faith and Church are answered. Give it a read, or recommend it to someone you may know who is looking for answers about the Ancient Faith.

EXPOSE' OF ANSELM'S PENAL SUBSTITUTIONARY ATONEMENT

It is mind-boggling that the vast majority of those who call themselves Christians are so wrong about almost every aspect of the person and work Jesus Christ. One important aspect of the person and work of Christ is His "death upon the cross". Listen to this incredibly detailed expose' of the doctrine of "Penal Substitutionary Atonement" as proclaimed by Anselm of Canterbury, and believed by Protestant and Roman Catholic Christians. Most of the popular radio and television teachers and pastors embrace the falsehoods and blasphemies of Anselms doctrine in one form or another.

THE PHILOKALIA

Philokalia means "Love of the Beautiful". Here that means the beautiful Truth of God, of His Kingdom, and of His Righteousness. The writings(now in 5 volumes in English) are texts of some 30 Church Fathers from the fourth through the fifteenth centuries organized around particular themes. This amazing labor of "love", and labor of "love of Truth" was accomplished by two modern saints: St Macarios Notaros(1731-1805) and, St Nicodemos the Agorite(1749-1809). The Philokalia is a treasure of Orthodox Christian spiritual life.

THE BOOK OF HEBREWS INTRODUCES JESUS

"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they, For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him."
                                        (Hebrews 1:1-6)

The above six verses present 10 facts that demonstrate the deity of the Messiah/Christ

1) The Messiah is called God's "SON".
2) The Messiah is the "Heir of all things".
3) The worlds "were made through Him (Messiah)". (see John 1:1-3)
4) The Messiah shares in God's glory.
5) The Messiah is the very equal of the person of God.
6) The Messiah holds together the vast creation by His omnipotent power. (see Colossians 1;16,17)
7) The Messiah purged us of our sins, an act only God can do.
8) The Messiah shares the throne of God. (see Revelation 22:1)
9) The Messiah is named God's Son by God Himself.
10) The Messiah is to be worshiped by the angels, only God is to be worshiped.
